Fabric Ideas

I am to become thrice blessed as an aunt this summer (whoohoo!) and word  on the street that my sister is going to break the girl trend that has since dominated the next generation. I’ve been dabbling in making simple blankets for my friends and family. Since my sewing skills are so elementary, it is essential that I use wonderful fabric to make up for all the mistakes I make in assembly. I have found some good sites for girly prints (Anna Marie Horner/used with a bring red flannel, Amy Butler, Michael Miller/used with pastel pink and currently in the works) but does anyone have tips for more boyish prints? Last time I made a blanket for a baby boy I had to use a blue and green paisley, and while I do love a good paisley, my sister enjoys bolder patterns. Any ideas? Please no camouflage, cowboys or trucks. (Sis, feel free to weight in since it’s your son and everything. :-))

I like http://quilthome.com/ – it’s just another online fabric shop but they have nice images of the different collections right on the home page which makes me look at fabrics I might not normally seek out. They are also quite efficient in their shipping.

First I must say that you are too kind with these schemes! Lizzie LOVES her Anna Marie Horner blanket. It is SO bright and cheerful, and very well made. It’s on her bed, it’s a tablecloth for her play table, it’s a super hero cape. Such a happy print that it makes me smile everytime I see it. So thank you again for your thoughtfulness.
As to boy fabrics, you are right that I like the bolder, brighter, stuff. But of course there is a huge range within the realm that I’m fond of. And I loved your comment about staying away from camo, cowboys, and trucks! As long as we’re not in that genre I’m sure you can’t go wrong! 🙂 Love you.
