sneaky sneaky spring

This last weekend was our first real taste of Spring here in the Inland Northwest. Naturally, we tried to soak up every minute of it, which resulted in sunburns for both B and I (but we don’t really mind – after all, it was worth it!). To give you an idea of just how late Spring is up here, I offer this picture.

That flower that my daughter is playing with is called February Daphne (Daphne mezereum) and is named thusly because it blooms in February (it is one of the first 3 or 4 things to bloom in this region). But wait a minute, it’s April and it is just now blooming. So, you do the math. Spring is two months late here. In all fairness though, I think it was named by someone in Oregon because it always blooms at least a month ‘late’ here in Idaho.

But we’re not complaining. Our few days of Spring were glorious, and now the rain is back to make the rest of our short spring even greener and prettier. These little teaser weekends just make us look forward to the beautiful summer months even more!
