spring cleaning

For the past two days, I’ve been concentrating on cleaning up our daughter’s room. Her room has always been the unfortunate receptacle of everything that didn’t have anywhere else to go, and it’s really beginning to show. To give you an idea, she has her crib, cradle, and changing table, and then a file cabinet, book case, desk, two rocking chairs, toy baskets, and then the little random stuff like an extra dining room chair, the sewing table, and the ironing basket, etc. Needless to say, it’s a bit of a mess. On top of that, the time has come to switch to a toddler bed, so we really need to clean up the room so that it isn’t a safety hazard when she decides to be naughty and get up from her naps and play with everything she can reach.

Yesterday was just a general ‘picking up’ of the room – consolidating some things and throwing out what we don’t use any more. Today, I launched into her big rubbermaid containers of old clothes. As a result, my living room looked like a war zone.

And who knew that a two year old could have accumulated so many shoes in her lifetime?!

So I got that all taken care of, and we’re going to be throwing some of those containers in storage to free up space in her closet. I also managed to fill a bag with stuff for Goodwill, which always feels like a great accomplishment to me. If anyone has any great storage/organizing tips for kids’ rooms, I would love to hear them. And, if you’re in the area and looking to get rid of a toddler bed or mattress, let me know!!

I just rearranged our bed frame to be angled in the corner diagonally, providing a nice v-shaped storage nook behind it. I think it worked pretty well, but I’m not sure how you’d do that with a toddler bed.
