I took some polls on yahoo answers.com. Please be aware that these are all men who are probably not Christians or even married, but I thought the answers were still pretty revealing. Here are their answers:

16 out of 18 men would prefer “A happy/confident woman who has physical flaws
2 out of 18 men would prefer “A woman who is physically perfect but over self-conscious/obsessive about her appearance”

8 out of 8 men aren’t bothered by a normal amount of cellulite on their woman.

9 out of 12 men say that “personality” is one of the most attractive attributes of a woman.

11 out of 12 men say they would rather come home to “a messy home, take out, dirty – happy children and a wife who is happy and ready for sex”

1 out of 12 men say the would rather come home to “spotless house, dinner on the table, clean kids, and an exhausted wife”

I love that. I had a friend in high school who did her science fair project on body image and what sort of image men prefer (this was back in public school). It was fascinating to see that the guys preferred the ‘average’ size 8-12 with some nice curves to the highly glamorized size 0-4. Oddly enough, I think that a lot of women don’t see this as a comfort because we’ve been trained not to trust men, and so we brush it away and say, ‘yeah, right’. We trust the media over our husbands and throw ourselves into a dieting frenzy which is no way to keep a man happy!

I agree. It’s sad, really. I think a lot of us tend to do things (like dieting and dressing) for ourselves and to impress other women — without realizing it. I think it’s important to dress for our husbands and to ask what they want. Do they want us to be a size 4? Do they want us to have long hair or short hair? Do they prefer pants or skirts or dresses? What perfume does he like? It’s been difficult for me to change my idea of what is beautiful to be Ben’s idea of what is beautiful. I forget which comedian said it, but someone said that if women really wore perfume for men it would smell like meatloaf. 😉

I asked one more question, but didn’t get many answers. I asked how many husbands expected their wife to get back into her pre-baby shape after she had a kid. The guys that actually answered the question seriously (I got a lot of women answering) said they did hope their wives got back into shape (not necessarily pre-baby, but healthy and fit), but they expected it to take awhile.
